0014 – Bimba – Caetano Veloso, Seu Jorge, Garoto, Lenine, Hamilton de Holanda, Marco Pereira, Badi Assad, Michel Legrand and Luiz Eça

Every year, Brasília turns itself also into the capital of Brazilian Music, during its International Summer Course. The meeting gathers more than sixty thousand people, among public audience, students and renowned teachers. During its 20th year, the acoustic guitar player Marco Pereira and the mandolin player Hamilton de Holanda met each other. They had a little jam session in the backstage, and from that wonderful experience they decided to record the album Luz das Cordas (Light From The Strings).

Named after Lewis Carrol’s literature, Wonderland is the album recorded by the singer and acoustic guitar player Badi Assad, which brings many questions about the fragile human soul and its illusions. It includes a blues duet with Seu Jorge, our most famous black singer, in a rearrangement from the song “Vacilão”, the popular samba originally recorded by Zeca Pagodinho.

Michel Legrand is an old french pianist and composer who won three Oscars with movies soundtracks. He was a great friend of Luiz Eça, the great pianist, and in 2004 came to Rio de Janeiro to invite Ivan Lins, Francis Hime, Jacques Molerembaum and other great musicians to record the album “Uma Homenagem a Luiz Eça“. Each track is a rare gem to be appreciated.

Caetano Veloso recorded in 1979 the album Cinema Transcedental. We’ll listen to Beleza Pura, one of the greatest hits of this album.

0003 – Coisas – Moacir Santos, Tânia Maria and Radamés Gnattali

Tânia Maria is a world-class jazz pianist and singer. She has recorded over 20 albums and she has played in every important jazz festival in the world, being once nominated for a Grammy award in the category “Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Female”. We show here a performance in Azzhus Montmartre, Copenhagen, from 1979.

Moacir Santos is a world-class self-taught renowned maestro. He played easily many instruments. Moacir was the teacher of many important musicians in Brazil, like João Donato, Baden Powell, Sérgio Mendes, Roberto Menescal and Nara Leão, being contributed to refresh our popular music harmony. We’ll play two of his famous compositions.

Radamés Gnattali was another great maestro, responsible for most of the golden radio years in Brazil. He was the conductor of Radio Nacional’s orchestra, writing more than a thousand popular songs arrangements. A thousand. We’ll play some of his scores, recorded by Novo Quinteto in 2007.

0001 – Intro – Yamandu Costa, Jane Duboc and Luiz Eça

Greetings, everyone! I am so excited because this is my first podcast ever! LoungeBR is finally launched!

The Lounge BR Intro track features a virtuoso acoustic guitar player called Yamandu Costa, the great maestro Luiz Eça and a goddess singer called Jane Duboc. Hope you enjoy it!

Here they are! Mafuá and El Negro Del Blanco are two songs from the album Mafuá, recorded in 2008. It’s the last from Yamandu Costa. He’s today the most requisited 7 cords acoustic guitar players in Brazil, and was born in Rio Grande do Sul, in brazilian south region. I don’t really know who sings in El Negro Del Blanco. Maybe it is him alone, since some say that this is a solo album.

Preciso Aprender a Ser Só is a composition from the brothers Marcos Valle and Paulo Sérgio Valle, and Pra Dizer Adeus was composed by Edu Lobo and Torquato Neto. They are featured in the celebrated Eça e Cordas, a Luiz Eça’s album recorded in 1965 (!). He is one of the best brazilian maestros ever. You’ll notice his swing and punch by the late 60’s, decades earlier electronic lounge music was born.

Por Causa de Você is a composition from Tom Jobim and Dolores Duran. Photograph (Fotografia) was composed by Tom Jobim. Both are featured in Sweet Lady Jane, an album from Jane Duboc, born in Pará, a state in the brazilian North region. It was recorded in New York, 2002. Ivan Lins, a great composer, signs the production and arrangements, which features many jazzy smooth and beautiful strings. They were celebrating 30 years of Jane Duboc’s career.
